Five on Friday

Every now and then it is useful to remember the small and big good things that happened to us during the week. It was one busy week and all is a bit hazy but here are 5 things that peeked out of the haze, like a mountain top from the mist.

1. I went to the Open Day of the Centre for Textile Conservation and Technical Art History at the University of Glasgow. It was amazing. Students displayed their conservation projects and explained what they were working on. I wish I had taken photos but I didn't. There were rubber bathing caps from the 1950s, waterproof Inuit anoraks from the mid 19th century made of seal gut (see examples), christening gowns from the same period and a bonnet made out of loofah like material and raspberry red delicate ribbon. I also found out about dyes and colours I had never heard of, for example Turkey Red. Best of all, I went for work! We are trying to forge links between the Sciences and the Arts and this was a great opportunity to do so.  
2. Spring is all around us.  
3. I have finished the body of my Lady Kina cardigan. The pattern is for a short sleeved cardi but I am not sure that our climate is really ideal for that. I am going to knit three quarter sleeves on.  
4. All four children went to school for most of the week. Only Alistair was off sick for a day and half. Maybe that is the spring bug season coming to an end.
5. We are enjoying some new play equipment campaigned for and organised by the local community council.
