Maybe I am reading something in this that is not there but it looks the me like the UAW got its butt kicked in the dispute with American Axle. The company needs to cut labor costs from the now average of $73.48 in wages and benefits by $20 to $30 an hour...and you have to wonder about UAW logic...
"Local union officials say workers make far less than $73.48 per hour, and that the figure includes retiree health care and other costs that shouldn't be added in."
Part of the age old problems between labor and business is that labor has never understood what it costs to pay them...if they don't see it in their paychecks they don't believe it has cost business.
I can tell you from experience that even without paying medical and retirement benefits that labor costs at least fifty percent more than the hourly wage because of government demands such as social security, unemployment taxes, and workman's comp insurance.
Once again people I tell you...the best thing this government could do for the USA economy is pass a national right to work law...one that includes government employees as well as industry. Labor unions are hamstringing many local governments and have pretty well taken over a lot of states...and YOU the taxpayer are footing the bill.
